To become a certified medical coder, you need to clear a written exam offered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). The certification is called CCA (Certified Coding Associate) and for a student to have Medical Coder Certification he or she must have U.S high school diploma or an equivalent degree and must have completed training in medical coding.
